Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament 2004
You think that you're the best?  Now's your chance to prove it.
Play Tecmo. Understand it. Love it.
Tecmo Super Bowl is one of the most perfect examples of a video game that deserves a cult-like following.  When we were kids, the game was larger than life by making current NFL stars into mega-stars.  Guys like Bo Jackson, Barry Sanders, Joe Montana, and Jerry Rice were simply unstoppable.  It's quirks like 99 yard passes and 80 yard field goals falling short by inches only enhance it's legend.
Tournament Background
Since I began attending college, I have had a strange desire to host a Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament.  In all my conversations with other Tecmo players, each person claims to be a master of the game.  I certainly feel the same.  But with so many masters, shouldn't one be considered "the best"?  Thus lies to desire to create such a tournament.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there an entrance fee?
A:
Not 100% yet.  I'm considering a $5 entry fee which will cover the costs of food, beer, soda, & prizes.

Q: What kind of prizes could I win?
A:
That too, is up in the air.  For sure, I'd love to have a large "Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament Champion" trophy made up for the winner.  Cash prizes would be sweet as well.  It all depends if we have an entry fee or not.

Q: Will we be using an NES or Emulators?
A: We will most definitely be using the NES system.  However, I'll have emulators set up on computers for the sake of playing exhibitions games.

Q: Where will this tournament be located at?
A:
Right now, I'm planning on the living room in my apartment.  It's fairly large.  Big enough to have three or four televisions and couches set up for games.  If the tournament ends up being larger than expected, it would be possible to move it to a larger venue.

Q: What day will it be?
A:
I'm hoping for a Wednesday afternoon/evening.  My weekends are pretty much booked solid every week...so I'd like to stay away from that. But, it will obviously depend on the availability of the players involved.  Overall, I'm just looking for a one day celebration of Tecmo Super Bowl with the Tournament Champion being crowned at the end of the event.

Q: How can I help?
A:
You can help in many ways.  First of all, I only have two TV's, one functioning NES, and one Tecmo Super Bowl cartridge.  If you could contribute any of those previously mentioned things, that would be great.  Also, during the day of the event you may also bring some food & drinks to share.

Q: When I'm not playing, what else can I do?
A:
Depends what you want to do.  If you are not scheduled to play another game for an hour or so, you can leave if you'd like...and then come back in time for your next game.  However, the day is meant to be a celebration of Tecmo Super Bowl, and really, pro football as it was in the early 1990's.  I plan on having other TV's & Nintendo's set up to play exhibition games with others while you are not playing a tournament game.  Also, I plan on having the place decorated in vintage 1990 NFL posters and memorabilia to look at as well.

Q: Anything else special going on?
A:
Well, I'd like to be able to document this whole day on video.  I plan on having VCR's connected to the Nintendo's in order to record game film (and thus have video of great plays, games, etc).  Also, I'd like to have video camera roaming around picking up footage of the action as well as some interviews to be later edited together to produce somewhat of a memories video of the day.
